Responsibilities

Brasfield & Gorrie, a recognized leader in the construction industry, has an exciting opportunity available for a Business Intelligence Developer I in the Information Technology department.  The position is in the corporate office located in Birmingham, AL. The Business Intelligence Developer I will utilize Business Intelligence Software (such as PowerBI, Business Objects, BI Publisher) and SQL to create or assist others in building visual dashboards and reporting solutions that provide meaningful insight to operational result. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, works well in a team, well versed in a variety of technologies with experience working with both structured and unstructured data.

 

Responsibilities and Essential Duties include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Execute day-to-day development operations in fulfillment of product features and stories.
  • Collaborate with developers, analysts, and designers in conceptualizing and development of new data models.
  • Assists with designing, building, and deploying BI and/or data solutions
  • Conduct regular ad hoc data analysis to support business goals and provide meaningful insight to operational results
  • Develop business understanding of complex and varying data sources. Interprets data for use by varied audiences within the company.
  • Understand and participate in the process for cleaning, preparing, and modeling raw data from varying sources to create datasets and focused data models.

  • Assist with implementing methods to improve data quality, reliability, and accessibility
  • Participate in peer review, pull requests, and collaborative discussions with other developers and engineers – this feels very specific but maybe we can make more generic
  • Evaluating work product to ensure that it is valid, structured properly, and meets industry standards.
  • Participate in planning and sizing of user stories.
  • Maintain an understanding of the latest software tools, technologies, and programing practices through education, study, research, conferences, workshops, and/or groups.
  • Manual testing of data model to verify requirements are met and assist with data validation
  • Resolve problems uncovered by customer feedback and testing by correcting or referring problems to appropriate personnel for correction.
  • Work with support personnel to resolve issues and assist end users in issues related to analytics and data
  • Designs, builds and deploys BI solutions
  • Evaluates and improves existing BI systems
  • Develops and implements methods to improve data quality, reliability, and accessibility
  • Work with network administrators, systems analysts, and software engineers to assist in resolving problems related to databases, warehouses, and other related software systems
  • Develop and maintain documentation as needed.
  • Support other BI users within the organization
  • Mentors and trains peers
  • Researches and designs solutions to implement business requirements.
  • Gathers business requirements
  • Leads data validation efforts

Education - Skills - Knowledge - Qualifications & Experience

  • College diploma or university degree in the field of Computer Science, Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or Software Engineering preferred or related experience
  • 2-4 years’ relevant experience with advanced analytical/problem solving and data mining preferred
  • Working knowledge of BI tools
  • Proven experience writing SQL Queries
  • Knowledge of diverse technologies and new and current BI tools with a desire for continuous learning
  • General knowledge of data warehouse structure
  • General knowledge of IT concepts, strategies and methodologies
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and experience writing reports and giving presentations
