Brasfield & Gorrie, a recognized leader in the construction industry, has an exciting opportunity available for a Director of Learning & Development. The Director of Learning & Development reports to the Vice President of  Safety & Learning and serves Brasfield & Gorrie’s internal clients as a learning and development professional. Brasfield & Gorrie has a strong commitment to the strategic development of programs to meet the learning & development needs of the company. The Director of Learning & Development will inspire the vision for the team that will develop learning programs in alignment with our values and strategic needs. The Director will assess department staffing needs to define and hire new positions as the department growth plan is developed. A full complement of skills are required, including demonstrated experience building enterprise-wide learning and development strategies and programs, consulting with business leaders, building support for change, utilizing and analyzing data, and the ability to work with a wide variety of people and teams.


Responsibilities and Essential Duties include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • In collaboration with the leadership of the company, develop the overarching learning strategy through thoughtful learning and development solutions that cultivate a positive and continuous learning environment that prepares our workforce for the challenges ahead.
  • Initiate working with business unit leaders to identify gaps in performance and expected outcomes, and determine learning and development solutions to close the gaps, maintaining a flexible and forward-thinking approach.
  • Maintain the highest level of learning and development expertise to be able to make recommendations for learning and development solutions and systems to assist the business.
  • Establish metrics and goals to measure and evaluate effectiveness of training. Communicate these expectations with peers, internal clients, and leadership.
  • Take responsibility for oversight and outcomes of all learning initiatives.
  • Continually assess, adjust, and redesign the overall learner experience to ensure innovative delivery and effective ways to learn and interact, followed up with regular content evaluation and learner analytics.
  • Lead the Learning & Development team to ensure a high-functioning, psychologically-safe team environment and promote the highest level of professional development and growth for the staff.
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively work on multiple projects and initiatives as required and the ability to adapt to changes regarding the needs of the company. Ensure that all projects meet appropriate guidelines, standards, budgets, and client expectations.
  • Manage and oversee the internal functions of the Learning & Development department, including budget, strategic initiatives, project management, and external reporting.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Department to maintain a proactive corporate communication strategy for learning & development initiatives.
  • Work to serve the community and to support company community service interests.


Education - Skills - Knowledge - Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • 10+ years progressive work experience in learning & development with a minimum of three years leading and building a team. Large company experience is preferred
  • Strategic and operational approach to problem-solving; strong critical thinking skills
  • Knowledge of adult learning and content delivery methods required; corporate leadership experience preferred
  • Experience in development of learning programs, training, and e-learning development
  • Familiarity and prior experience with online content delivery platforms/learning management systems
  • Strong ability to work with a variety of leaders, to assemble strategy based upon input from others, and to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • A relational leadership style that communicates equally well with senior leaders, peers, team members, staff members, and all other employees
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Ability to take initiative and meet deadlines; action- and results-oriented
  • Ability to manage data analytics
  • Strong technical skills and the ability to promote new technology platforms
  • Ability to travel to all office locations and construction jobsites
  • CPTD preferred
