Responsibilities

Brasfield & Gorrie, a recognized leader in the construction industry, has an exciting opportunity available for a Data Engineer in the IT department, at the corporate office located in Birmingham, AL. The Data Engineer will utilize various methods to transform raw data into useful formats and models to provide meaningful insight to operational results.

 

Responsibilities and Essential Duties include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Clean, Prepare and Model raw data from varying sources to create specific use case datasets as well as wider departmental and businesses focused data models.
  • Develop business understanding of complex and varying data sources and interpret data to varied audiences within the company
  • Develop and implement methods to improve data quality, reliability, and accessibility.
  • Continued engagement with industry trends to develop, test, and optimize new and existing data architecture
  • Collaborate with IT department team members to interpret and understand data and data sources to support reporting needs, providing key insights into financial performance, safety, operational efficiency, and project management efficiency
  • Support other BI users within the organization

 

Education - Skills - Knowledge - Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 2-4 years’ experience preferred as a Data Engineer (or in a similar role)
  • Technical expertise with data models, data mining, and segmentation techniques
  • Knowledge of programming languages (e.g. Python, Spark, Scala)
  • Knowledge of DevOps processes (e.g. Git, CI/CD)
  • Hands-on experience with SQL database design and writing queries
  • Experience with data ingestion, processing, transformation, and storage processes and tools (e.g. Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, Databricks)
  • General knowledge of IT concepts, strategies and methodologies
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and experience writing reports and giving presentations
