Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing, the Marketing Copywriter is responsible for creating, writing, and editing content and technical documentation for Brasfield & Gorrie’s marketing and communications deliverables. This person must have excellent research and interview skills, expertise in style and grammar guidelines, and the ability to translate technical terms into text that inspires and informs any reader. Experience in the Architecture/Engineering/Construction industry is preferred.


Responsibilities and Essential Duties include the following:  (Other duties may be assigned)

  • Collaborate with marketing, business development, and operations personnel to write proposals on tight deadlines
  • Consult with marketing to make recommendations about proposal strategies and content
  • Consult with communications to make recommendations about copy for internal and external communications materials, including press releases, video scripts, website, social media, newsletters, and intranet content
  • Ensure corporate brand messages are being represented correctly and communicated properly
  • Use a storytelling approach to communicate technical information in a way that engages readers.
  • Manage multiple assignments simultaneously, while working independently and with other writers
  • Edit the writing of other employees and incorporate this writing into proposals and communications materials
  • Direct the activities of marketing coordinators as it relates to the content of proposals and other documents
  • Maintain and proactively update collection of boilerplate documents used for marketing and sales efforts, including overviews, technical documents, project descriptions and resumes
  • Write miscellaneous marketing and communications content as needed, including editing award submittals, website content, and more
  • Maintain corporate style guide, serving as the authority on organization-specific style decisions
  • Meet regularly with operations personnel to learn about current company projects and construction methodology
  • Interview operations and support personnel to become familiar with specific business units and their business models
  • Research and review industry press, trade publications, local publications, and past proposals to learn more about construction terminology, concepts, and the competitive marketplace

Education - Skills - Knowledge - Qualifications & Experience

  • At least 5 years of prior experience in a technical writing or journalism role
  • Experience in Architecture/Engineering/Construction industry preferred
  • Four-year journalism, English, business or technical degree
  • Mastery of grammar and style guidelines, including AP Style and Chicago Manual of Style
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Proficient at writing engaging headlines and copy
  • Requires knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (esp. Word, Excel).  Knowledge of searching CRM databases desired, but not necessary.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet aggressive deadlines
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Functions effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times
  • Good time management skills and organizational skills
