Responsibilities

Brasfield & Gorrie, a recognized leader in the construction industry, has an exciting opportunity available for a Workers’ Compensation Specialist to support our Insurance and Risk Management Department (I&RM). Our I&RM Department is located in our Birmingham, Alabama headquarters, but this position may reside in either our Birmingham, Atlanta, or Nashville office.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for working alongside Brasfield & Gorrie’s current Workers’ Compensation team to manage the Workers’ Compensation program company-wide
  • Ensure Company is compliant with state-specific Workers’ Compensation regulations as well as Company policies and guidelines
  • Serve as the point of notification and contact for employees regarding any incident or injury that could or has resulted in a Workers’ Compensation claim
  • Responsible for claim documentation and electronic submission to Worker’s Compensation insurance carrier
  • Assist with timely coordination of appropriate medical treatment in collaboration with carrier claim handlers and medical case managers
  • Assist with internal claim investigations to evaluate potential fraud
  • Evaluate relatedness of medical treatment recommendations to claims
  • Communicate with medical providers as necessary to assist safety and field personnel in facilitating return to work opportunities to minimize lost time
  • Work in collaboration with legal resources (internal and external) to manage routine litigation as well as complex or potentially high financial impact claim issues to obtain optimal outcomes
  • Make recommendations and obtain buy-in from appropriate internal managers with respect to potential settlement opportunities
  • Assist with preparation and maintenance of corporate OSHA logs
  • Provide information to marketing, safety, project management, and administrative teams in response to inquiries for awards & prequalification questionnaires
  • Assist safety and field teams in identifying and interviewing potential medical facilities within our insurance carrier’s network during the start-up of new construction projects
  • Develop successful partnerships among employees, third party administrators (TPAs), internal business partners, and external service providers
  • Attend Workers’ Compensation Seminars to increase knowledge of state-specific claims practices in the multiples jurisdictions in which we work

Education - Skills - Knowledge - Qualifications & Experience

  • College degree preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience handling Workers’ Compensation claims
  • Ability to build and maintain productive relationships with our various carrier claim offices to facilitate optimal claim outcomes
  • Strong interpersonal skills (interaction with internal and external customers to include HR, Accounting, IT, Marketing, Legal, Safety, Field, etc.)
  • Self-starter with strong work ethic and initiative
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and complete tasks in a self-directed manner
  • Ability to learn and process new technology
  • Adaptable and open to change
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Minimal travel required
