    Brasfield & Gorrie, a recognized leader in the construction industry, has an exciting opportunity available for a Senior Software Engineer with our IT department’s development team in Birmingham, Alabama. Our development team designs, builds, and supports enterprise software for use by our construction project teams in their day-to-day work.  All team contributes to designing and implementing software solutions for our internal clients, through process review, system and solution architecture, implementation and development, deployment, and support. Our ideal candidate is able to work in a fast-paced, innovative environment with multiple product offerings and demonstrates an eagerness to learn, solve problems, and work in a team.  

     

    Major Duties & Responsibilities:

    Strategy & Planning

    • Collaborate with developers, analysts, and designers in conceptualizing and development of new software programs and applications.
    • Assist in defining software development project plans, including scoping, scheduling, and implementation.
    • Researching and designing solutions to implement business requirements.

    Development

    • Execute day-to-day development operations in fulfillment of product features and stories.
    • Mentor younger software engineers and developers during their daily work.
    • Conduct peer reviews \ pull request reviews of other developers’ and engineers’ code.
    • Test work products, both manual and automated.
    • Conduct research on emerging application development software products, languages, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.
    • Assist support team in resolving and troubleshooting issues with custom developed tools.
    • Complete quality work in a timely manner within deadlines.

    Operational Management

    • Work with network administrators, systems analysts, and software engineers to assist in resolving problems with software products or company software systems.
    • Design, run, and monitor software performance tests on new and existing programs for the purposes of correcting errors, isolating areas for improvement, and general debugging.
    • Administer critical analysis of test results and deliver solutions to problem areas.
    • Manage and/or provide guidance to junior team members.

     

    Education - Skills - Knowledge - Qualifications & Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or software engineering
    • Five years of experience working as a senior software engineer, software engineer, developer, or similar role
    • Experience serving as technical lead throughout the full software development lifecycle, from conception, architecture definition, detailed design, scoping, planning, implementation, testing to documentation, delivery and maintenance
    • Proficiency in C#, Asp.Net \ Asp.Net Core
    • Proficiency in Microsoft SQL (TSQL)
    • Web development skills with JavaScript, CSS, HTML, and frontend frameworks preferred
    • Excellent understanding of coding methods and best practices.
    • Thorough understanding of platforms such as .Net, .Net Core, IIS, Azure
    • Experience with Scrum/Agile development methodologies
    • Application architecture, design patterns, solution design experience
    • Software debugging experience
    • Unit testing and TDD experience
    • Able to communicate effectively with non-technical staff and with members of interdisciplinary teams
    • Flexible and adaptable regarding learning and understanding new technologies
    • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
    • Ability to conduct research into software-related issues and products
    • Highly self-motivated
    • Keen attention to detail
    • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
    • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
    • Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
    • Minimal travel required
