  • Responsibilities

    Brasfield & Gorrie, L.L.C. is a $3 billion general contractor and construction management company currently seeking an attorney to support our insurance and risk management department. Based in Brasfield & Gorrie’s Birmingham office, this position will report to the Corporate Risk Manager. The position requires business management acumen and must demonstrate strong leadership, organizational, and time management skills, as well as have strong communication and client service skills. Below are the main responsibilities for the position: 


    • Negotiating, writing and executing agreements with a concentration on insurance-related language
    • Offering counsel on legal issues including insurance claims and subcontractor defaults
    • Working alongside other departments within the company to evaluate and mitigate potential risks
    • Researching and anticipating legal issues related to insurance and subcontractor defaults
    • Providing training to the company on legal topics
    • Working with outside counsel and insurance representatives
    • Maintaining a legal database of active insurance and subcontractor default claim matters

    Education - Skills - Knowledge - Qualifications & Experience

    • Current state bar membership in good standing
    • J.D. from accredited law school
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience; construction or insurance defense law practice preferred
    • Strong business acumen and negotiation skills
    • Ability to advise internal clients and advocate on behalf of the Company with third parties
    • Ability to exercise sound judgement in identifying risks to the Company
    • Ability to develop and advocate for effective solutions to mitigate risk
    • Detail-oriented, responsive and results focused, proficient in developing and improving business processes
    • Knowledge of federal, state and local laws
    • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills to establish and maintain relationships with relevant internal counsel, business clients, and other Company stakeholders
    • Ability to work independently and complete tasks in a self-directed manner
    • Ability to function effectively in a deadline driven environment
    • Strong work ethic and initiative
    • Travel to the company’s other offices and jobsites will be required
