  • Responsibilities

    Brasfield & Gorrie, a recognized leader in the construction industry, has an exciting opportunity available for a Payroll Specialist in Birmingham, Alabama. The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the processing of multi-state payroll including computing wage and overtime payments, calculating and recording payroll deductions, processing requests for paycheck advances and processing terminations. 

     

    Responsibilities and Essential Duties include the following (other duties may be assigned):

    • Process payroll using JD Edwards Oracle Enterprise One including but not limited to keying hours, entering tax and direct deposit information
    • Set up and process professional services time entry charged to construction jobs
    • Work with Human Resources to determine deductions and benefits
    • Provide customer service about payroll related questions to our jobsites and employees
    • Answer inquiries and provide information; research and resolve payroll issues and discrepancies
    • Assist in resolution of issues presented by payroll staff
    • Calculate and distribute manual checks and bonuses
    • Verifications of Employment
    • Issue stop payment requests
    • Provide reports and any other requested information for internal or external audits
    • Set up and correction of Federal, Multi-State and Local Tax issues
    • Assist with payroll tax preparation and filing
    • Set up and respond to wage attachments such as child support and garnishments
    • Assist with Owner Audits
    • Research and respond to Operations/Project Team regarding labor and burden questions
    • Correct labor and burden in job cost
    • Research and resolve issues from the check reconciliation
    • Others duties as assigned

     

    Education - Skills - Knowledge - Qualifications & Experience

    • Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, business or related field preferred
    • Three or more years of payroll/construction job costing or related experience preferred
    • FPC or CPP certifications preferred but not required
    • Commercial construction experience a plus
    • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships
    • Knowledge of payroll principles, practices, regulations and procedures
    • Must be a team player
    • Excellent communication, analytical, mathematical and organizational skills
    • Proficient in MS Office, advanced MS Excel to include pivot tables and vlookups preferred
    • Familiar with Microsoft Excel and Outlook
    • Ability to learn new computer software
    • Knowledge of Oracle JD Edwards Enterprise One preferred but not required
